‘Bhaimonda’, the first ever made commercial biopic on a Writer, producer
Munin Barua’s life, highly praised in the Assamese Film sphere in the current scenario. The biopic, directed by Sasanka Samir and produced by Shyamantak Gautam, with music composed by Zubeen Garg and Paran Borkotoky, and shots by Vanchinathan Murugesam, got high acclaim. The film took almost 4 years of period for complete with nearly 360+ artists so far that released on 23rd May,2025. It can be Years of Assamese film journey ‘Bhaimonda an epitome. As per the concern, the most recognised ‘Zubeen-Jatin-Munin’ trio shines bright on screen. More to be added to the memory lane, how Barua grows up in a typical Assamese environment and is highly towards music at first. The usage of Gramophone records, the old cassettes are what treasures of old times. Moreover, the love for Jazz and Western music started to become popular by the timeline. The western instruments, such as the Mandolin and guitar, were introduced by Bhaimonda. Coming to the next dimension, an old depiction of Hansraj College, under Delhi University, where Munin went to pursue education, which shows a horizontal connection and concern to the world panorama this causes caught the eye of a normal being. Amongst the people out of the state, too, reached a huge multitude and gathered people to see him and rediscovered with euphoria, the range of the same.
The picturisation of films, i.e ‘Buaari’, ‘Ghor Sansar’ & ‘Son Moina’ also seemed so apt towards the audience. The crowd was huge. Zubeen’s enactment during his song release of ‘Hiya Diya Niya’ & ‘Mayabini ‘ sounds to the next level of depiction, which has stolen the hearts of the masses. For those filmmakers and film enthusiasts, ‘Bhaimonda’ is a silver lining that a biopic can be made in such a way, portraying true Assamese taste and Culture that clings to the soil.
