A Shower of Sewali (Night Jesmine)

You came like a fleeting breeze,

On an afternoon when Maa was to arrive on Earth,

And left like a hurricane…

But my love doesn’t wane,

Suddenly leaving me …

With a river flowing gently through my heart…

With tears in my eyes…

And an emptiness in my broken heart,

You took away a part of me,

That can never be mine again…

I keep promising myself to never look again,

Into your eyes that speak a million thoughts,

Once again, I find myself wavering…

And lost in your eyes,

Unable to find my way out…

Like an unfinished ballad,

My love remains unfulfilled…

Unrequited…

The fragrance of the newly blossoming Sewali flowers beckons me,

But my heart remains colourless like them,

And a rhythm in it stops playing…

This never-ending emptiness…

When will I be free from it?

May Maa grant me power,

The power within Her…

To survive this storm,

In my little boat,

And arrive safely ashore…

May She help me

Bury my grief,

In the sands of time…

Our time was so brief…

Like a sand clock may the tides turn,

And stop my heartburn…

And this unceasing longing…

Sometimes…

During an unkind moment,

I, too, wish you

A lifetime of emptiness,

But, I simply cannot…

May you be happy always,

And may the Sewali flowers shower you,

With an abundance of love,

Now and forever…
